Special Interest GroupsA Special Interest Group (SIG) is a subgroup within SRA that focuses on a specific area of interest, expertise, or activity. These groups are formed to facilitate collaboration, knowledge sharing, networking, and the advancement of shared goals among members. SRA supports SIGs to increase a sense of belonging within the organization and to advance the organization’s strategic plan and mission. Current SIGs Asian SIG The SRA Asian SIG is designed to foster a vibrant, supportive, and inclusive community for scholars, practitioners, and students focused on adolescent development among Asian and Asian diaspora populations, as well as those interested in related research topics. Our mission is to advance rigorous scientific inquiry, foster collaboration, and amplify the contributions of members focused on Asian and Asian diaspora adolescent development. Our vision is to create a globally connected, inclusive, and vibrant community of scholars dedicated to advancing knowledge and understanding of Asian adolescent development, while contributing meaningfully to SRA’s broader goals. Co-Chairs: Cecilia Cheung ([email protected]) and Yao Zheng ([email protected]) Black SIG The goal of the SRA Black SIG is to advance our understanding of Black adolescents and enhance the wellbeing of Black youth through research and practice. The SRA Black SIG is a growing community of scholars dedicated to centering Black voices, fostering meaningful connections, and advancing research that reflects the lived realities and brilliance of Black scholars across the globe. Our goal is to cultivate a scholarly space rooted in collaboration, mentorship, and the pursuit of research that addresses racial equity, celebrates cultural strength, and challenges systemic injustice. Co-Chairs: Riana Elyse Anderson ([email protected]) and Frank C. Worrell ([email protected]) Latine/x SIG The mission of the SRA Latine/x SIG is to advance scientific understanding of normative adolescent development among youth of all racial backgrounds who have heritage connections to predominantly Spanish or Portuguese-speaking regions and Indigenous language communities across North, Central, and South America through culturally grounded, intersectional, strengths-based research that informs theory, practice, and policy. Co-Chairs: Melissa Y. Delgado ([email protected]) and Gabriela Chavira ([email protected]) LGBTQIA+ SIG The LGBTQIA+ SIG aims to create a vibrant community that advances the field of LGBTQIA+ adolescent and young adult research and provides meaningful support to scholars within the field. We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and collaborative community for scholars at all career levels and across the globe. We are especially committed to supporting early-career scholars navigating the complex systems of power, privilege, and oppression related to being LGBTQIA+ alongside other social positions. The mission of this SIG focuses on four cornerstones: 1) supporting the advancement of LGBTQIA+ adolescent and young adult science; 2) providing mentorship and professional development for early-career researchers; 3) promoting inclusivity, accessibility, equity, and anti-racism within SRA and at the biennial conference; and, 4) building connections and advocating for LGBTQIA+ communities.
